Construction is underway in the Camdeboo National Park in the Eastern Cape, where South African National Parks (SANParks) has commenced with the development of a Bushcamp and Campsite.
Four to six safari-style tents on fixed wooden decks will be erected at the Park’s existing Gannalapa facility. The tents will accommodate two people each, and will be furnished with beds and bedding, providing visitors with a comfortable, semi-rustic nature experience.
Residents of the Bushcamp can make use of the existing facilities at Gannalapa, including a kitchen/bar, toilet block and braai area.
Phase two of the development plan foresees the erection of ten to twelve camping sites with a communal ablution block in the Acacia woodland area adjacent to Gannalapa.
Camdeboo National Park has traditionally not offered visitors accommodation facilities due to the large variety of accommodation on offer in the nearby town of Graaff-Reinet. However, it is hoped that the planned Bushcamp and campsite will complement and improve the existing range of facilities available to visitors.
The Bushcamp is due to be complete by the end of August 2010, while the campsite developments aim to be finished by the end of 2010.
