HOW TO GET THERE

Double Drift is reached from Grahamstown by taking the R67 north towards Fort Beaufort. The reserve is situated in the valley of the Great Fish River, but exact directions there are complicated. River Rafters will fax you a detailed map with notes to get to either Double Drift house or Mvubu Lodge.

WHO TO CONTACT

Write to River Rafters at PO Box 314, Bergvliet 7864, Cape Town. Telephone (021) 712-5094/5 or fax (021) 712-5241.

WHAT TO TAKE

Since you’re likely to be out in the sun for most of the day you should take a good sun hat, sun screen and a towel or kikoi to protect your legs and shoulders. Other than that, a costume and river sandals or takkies are essential. Although the river is not a wild one, you may well flip at least once: therefore, be sure that any binoculars or cameras are carried in a water-proof case or bag.
