WHERE TO BOOK

For reservations and inquiries contact the lodge on tel (022) 772 2062, fax (022) 772 1980 or e mail farmhous@mweb.co.za. Their website address is http://www.thefarmhouselangebaan.co.za.

HOW TO GET THERE

Langebaan is a little over an hour’s drive (120 km) from Cape Town on the R27, turning left at the Engen Garage. Once in Langebaart follow the signs down Oostewal Street to the southern end of town, where you’ll find the lodge in Egret Street, overlooking the yacht club.

WHAT TO DO

The lodge is virtually on the doorstep of the West Coast National Park where there’s whale viewing in spring, antelope and small game year round and various bird hides and walking trails for nature lovers. And it’s great for exploring by mountain bike. In spring, the park, and particularly the Postberg section, are one of the best places to view flowers.

If the southeaster’s blowing (which it does frequently in summer) then the lagoon is a sailor’s and windsurfer’s playground. If it’s not, explore the sheltered bays and islands by kayak or canoe and there’s fishing too. If you don’t have your own toys, give the Cape Sport Centre a call on (022) 772 1114 to rent some watersport equipment or mountain bikes.

Take a eco boat trip round the lagoon or out to the islands with a national park guide, tel (022) 772 2144. The Langebaan Country Club offers golf, tennis and bowls facilities.
