Wildlife video: jackal in Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve

The Highveld dusk was just gathering, and I saw this pair of eyes through the long grass. I switched off the car and waited (always works for me). The jackal calmed, moved on up the hill, and treated me to this song that echoed right across all 15 000 hectares of the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, it seemed.

Hiking or driving on the motor route, this reserve, preserving the last of the highveld grasslands ecosystem, always touches me with small surprises.
